Holiday Gifts for College Students Under $10

Board Games, Posters & Other Great Ideas for Cheap Christmas Gifts

Aug 18, 2009 Naomi Rockler-Gladen

Some of the best gifts for college students can be purchased for under $10. Try board games, ornaments, posters, coffee or tea, or music gift certificates.

Looking for some cheap holiday gifts for college students that will be appreciated? Here are some inexpensive and popular gift ideas.

Cookies and Other Homemade Baked Goods

Free food is always a plus for students, especially if the semester is still going on, and there's nothing like a basket of gooey cookies or other homemade treats to make a homesick student feel right at home. As an added bonus, the holiday season comes about the same time as final exam week, and a big basket of sweets will be especially appreciated by stressed out students.

Board Games

College students spend lots of time playing with expensive video game consoles, but that's not the only way to have fun and spend time with friends (and procrastinate). Everyone loves the classic board games: Monopoly, Scrabble, Life, checkers, chess, Uno, and even plain old playing cards.

College Student Cookbooks

Whether they're living in a dorm room or in their first apartment, most students are trying to figure out how to prepare food for the first time by themselves. There are plenty of cookbooks created especially for dorm room life or for college students that teach students more about cooking survival skills than anything else.

Odds and Ends School Supply Baskets

Students need school supplies, and buying all those little things can really add up. Help the student stock up with a nice bag or basket filled with loose, handy supplies: Post-it notes, a mini stapler, paper clips, binder clips, rubber bands, pens, pencils, a mini pencil sharpener, and anything else that might come in handy.

Coffee or Tea Gifts

A small bag of gourmet coffee or some soothing tea bags also are handy gifts. For added effect, place the coffee and tea into a pretty but inexpensive mug. Another idea is to make a small coffee or tea gift basket, complete with coffee or tea bags, sugar, creamer, stirrers, honey, and anything else that goes with honey or tea.

Gift Certificate for Digital Music Files

While not everyone can afford to buy students the latest iPod touch, it's easy to afford a small gift certificate for music at the iTunes store or other source of MP3s. Perhaps the student will remember the gift giver when listening to the songs.

Christmas Tree Ornaments

Christmas tree ornaments made terrific gifts for two reasons: first, they can be purchased cheaply, and second, the ornaments can be kept for years and will remind students of the gift giver ever Christmas. Of course, for a personalized and even more inexpensive touch, Christmas tree ornaments are not difficult to make.

Wall Posters

Help a student decorate a dorm room or apartment with some unique wall posters, either framed or unframed. Look for other inexpensive dorm room decorations as well, like plants, small lamps, and window decorations.

Inexpensive Student Gifts for Under $10

Much as everyone would like the hottest gifts of the season, a meaningful present doesn't have to cost much at all. Inexpensive gifts such as board games, school supplies,a and baked goods will be appreciated and enjoyed.
