Personalized gifts for students in fraternities and sororities are available on campuses and the Internet. Here are some of the products that make great holiday presents.

Looking for a student holiday gift for someone who is a fraternity brother or a sorority sister? This shouldn't be too difficult of a task. On any college campus – or on the Internet – you'll find a huge selection of Greek apparel, mugs, shot glasses, paddles, jewelry, and just about anything you can imagine engraved with the Greek letters of your choice. Many of these gifts can be personalized with the student's name, letters, and the name of the student's college or university.

Here are some gift ideas for Greeks for Christmas or Hanukkah – or for anytime.

Required Fraternity and Sorority Items

Living in a Greek house can be expensive. In addition to dues, students often have to purchase a list of items every semester, such as matching T-shirts and specific types of evening attire for events. If a student is a little cash strapped, getting one of these items on the list – or a gift certificate to a store where these items can be purchased – can really help.

Greek Apparel

Fraternity and sorority clothing of all kinds is easily available, from the ubiquitous sweatshirts, T-shirts, hoodies, jackets, and baseball caps to less common items such as hats, mittens, ties, shorts, sweatpants, socks, slippers, flip flops, and jewelry. One popular trend for sorority girls is apparel with letters or names embroidered on with rhinestones. For Jewish fraternity members, consider a yarmulke engraved with Greek letters for a unique Hanukkah gift.

Greek Ornaments

Hey, it's Christmas, right? A young person is just starting to collect Christmas ornaments, and an ornament with Greek letters on it will be a great piece of memorabilia to hang on trees for years to come.

Personalized Greek Paddles

One favorite accessory and decoration of fraternity and sorority members is the Greek paddle. Although these paddles have some symbolic functions, they are mostly just for show. Personalized paddles vary quite a bit in price; small acrylic ones can run around $15, and huge wood ones can be hundreds of dollars. These can be personalized with student names, letters, and other relevant symbols.

Greek Photo Gifts

If you are in a fraternity and sorority and want to buy a friend a gift that is memorable and sentimental, consider creating a photo collage, framed photo, or other similar gift. One popular choice is the photo calendar, which you can create using photos of various people in your house and give as a gift to multiple people. These calendars are easy to put together at most photography web sites. In addition, look for photo frames that are decorated with Greek letters.

Other Gifts for Greeks

If there's a product that students use, it can probably be found engraved with Greek letters. Some of the products that are available include

  • Bags and totes
  • Cups, mugs, beer glasses, shot glasses, and other glassware and drinkware
  • Blankets, pillows, afghans, and other bedding
  • Wall art and signs
  • Clocks
  • Stationary
  • Desk accessories
  • Keychains
  • Magnets
  • Bottle openers

Of course, a cheaper alternative is to purchase a set of Greek letters and sew or attach them to a product yourself.

Gifts With Greek Spirit

Personalized gifts for students who are in fraternities and sororities are easy to come by and can fit into any budget. Look for gifts that meet the needs of a student -- school supplies, sweatshirts, totes, water bottles, coffee mugs -- and add some Greek letters, and suddenly you've created a personalized, thoughtful, and practical gift.
