College students who plan budget friendly dates not only save money but also earn creativity points. The following sections offer tips for spending less money on dates.

After paying for expensive textbooks, basic living costs, and transportation fees, many college students find themselves living on a tight budget. A tight budget doesn’t mean, however, that college students have to stop dating because they can’t afford it. Instead, budget-conscious students just need to think of creative ways to spend time with their dates while saving money. The following sections offer ideas for inexpensive dates in college.

Go on a Picnic at a Campus Park

A picnic is a great date idea because it can cost very little. Students can pack meals to take on their picnics, like salads and sandwiches. Also, students can choose to only pack appetizers, like bruschetta, or desserts, like strawberries with chocolate sauce. In addition to packing food and drinks, students should also pack the necessary picnic supplies, such as a blanket, silverware, napkins, and glasses.

Walk Through a City’s Street Festival or Art Fair

In the warmer months, many college cities host street festivals and art fairs. Most of these outdoor events are free, but if there is an entrance fee it is usually for a small amount. Street festivals and art fairs are great for walking around and looking at art while talking. Also, many festivals and fairs feature live music, which is great entertainment for students on a date.

Attend an Academic Lecture or Open House

Many colleges offer free academic lectures for students. Before organizing their dates, students can check their college’s lecture calendar to see if any of the upcoming lectures would be of interest to their dates. In addition to lectures, many academic departments host open houses that feature students’ work. For an inexpensive date, students can go to art departments’ open houses to view student artwork in the college galleries.

Watch a College Theater, Music, or Dance Performance

One of the many advantages to living near a college campus is having access to all of the college’s theater, music, and dance performances. Students can watch a theater performance, listen to a symphony, and even watch a modern dance recital at their school. Therefore, students should check their schools’ performing arts schedules for dates. Many colleges offer free tickets or discounted tickets for students who have college IDs.

Play a Sport or Go on a Hike Near Campus

If students want to plan inexpensive dates that include exercise, then they can play a sport or go on a hike with their dates. A sports date could entail disc golf, tennis, and even riding bicycles. Also, if there are hiking trails nearby, students can go for hikes on their dates. A sports or hiking date is not only fun but also a good way to reduce college stress.

For college students who have tight budgets, there are several inexpensive and creative ideas for dating. Students can attend college events, like academic lectures and theater performances. And, they can also plan dates that take advantage of campus parks, such as by going on a picnic or on a hike.
