Winter 2009-2010 Fashion Trends for StudentsMini Dresses, Military Jackets, Belted Cowl Sweaters, and More
This year, college girls are staying comfy with big sweaters and peasant blouses. But on the weekends, they're heading out in cute little dresses.
So what are college girls wearing on campuses this Winter 2009 and 2010? here are some of the hottest fashion trends. Holiday shoppers with college girls on their Christmas and Hanukkah lists might want to keep these hot trends in mind. Sexy Mini DressesCollege girls: take advantage of the opportunity to wear these, as they're very much designed for the young woman in mind! Super-short, cutesy dresses are in every corner of every mall these days. This year, it's really all about the leg. Cleavage, which has been hot in recent years, is still around (as always), but this year necklines have gone a little bit up to compensate for the fact that hems have gone way, way up. For college girls, of course, this is exclusively a weekend look, as these dresses aren't exactly practical wear for going to class or doing pretty much anything besides having fun. Some of the most popular styles include:
Shades of Dark Purple, Wine, and MauveIs purple the new black? Well, probably not, but it's everywhere in fall and winter fashions. Purple, wine, mauve, and related shades are all the rage in shoes, so expect to see open-toed pumps, high heeled Mary Janes, and boots of all sizes in these colors. Oversized purses are in fashion right now too, and some of the hottest designer purses are coming out in shades of purple. Look for lots of purple sweaters as well, sometimes with a variety of shades of purple mixed with gray and black. Military JacketsPerhaps inspired by Michael Jackson, chic military-style jackets are now popping up in stores everywhere and on college campuses, and are popular in both loner and cropped styles. Military jackets are terrific for college students because they're casual and versatile. They're a great layering piece to out on outside and take off in a stuffy classroom. They go perfectly with jeans for class and over one of this year's sexy little dresses for a party. Printed Peasant TopsThese flowing, long shirts often come with colorful patterns and elaborate sleeves, and they often come in tunic styles. These tops were big last year and don't seem to be going anywhere, perhaps in part because this is one flattering style that most women can pull off. This year, there seem to be fewer baby doll-style tops in this style, perhaps because that look can make even the thinnest fashionista look pregnant. For college students, this is a great style because these shirts are effortlessly comfortable and are a snazzy way to spice up a simple pair of everyday jeans or leggings. Belted Cowl SweatersThese big, boxy sweaters usually come with a thick belt and a cowl collar that can fold down. Popular this past fall, girls can use them as layering pieces over a turtleneck or other long sleeved shirt. Like peasant tops, this boxy style looks best with skinny jeans or leggings, and also looks great with a stylish pair of boots. Winter 2009-2010 Campus FashionsThis year, practical, flattering items like big sweaters are in, but so are sexy, less practical items like cute little dresses. In a way, there's something for everyone to wear around campus and look for under the tree this year.
